Welcome
Wherever you are on your journey of faith, there is a place for you at Holy Communion.
A few “ground-rules” are important to help keep everyone safe.
We strongly recommend that everyone who is eligible be vaccinated before attending in person worship.
If more of us are vaccinated, we are all safer.
Distancing: As much as we wish we could greet one another, out of love for our neighbor we have to stay distanced. Please maintain 6 or more feet from other households at all times. You are welcome to wave to one another!
Masks: Please ensure all members of your household over age 6 are wearing a mask covering both the mouth and nose at all times. Ushers have some masks available, if you forgot yours. Please do not remove your mask or lift your mask at any time. When it comes time for communion, simply slip the wafer under your mask.
Eucharist: All are welcome to receive. When it comes time, please maintain a distance of greater than 6 feet in a single file line up to the front. Please come to the priest on the side of the church where you are sitting. Make your way down the side aisle to return to your seat. Under the bishop’s order, wine is not available at this time. If you would prefer not to receive, simply cross your arms across your chest and the priest will give you a blessing.
Donations: We welcome donations to support the work of Holy Communion, whether a payment on a pledge or simply an offering. An offering container is available at the welcome table, if you would like to make a gift after the service.

Glory to God in the highest,
and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks,

The Collect of the Day
The presider prays the collect or another sentene of scripture may be read.
Let us Pray.
O God, who on this day taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
The Readings
We hear the stories of the experience of God from our spiritual ancestors. Following an ancient pattern originally from Jewish synagogue worship, readings follow a set calendar for what will be read when. The translation used at Holy Communion is the Common English Bible translation.
The First Reading

A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1-21)
When the day of Pentecost had come, the disciples were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. Divided tongues, as of fire, appeared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.

Now there were devout Jews from every nation under heaven living in Jerusalem. And at this sound the crowd gathered and was bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in the native language of each. Amazed and astonished, they asked, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us, in our own native language? Parthians, Medes, Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs-- in our own languages we hear them speaking about God’s deeds of power.”

No, this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘In the last days it will be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams. Even upon my slaves, both men and women, in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy. And I will show portents in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and smoky mist. The sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the coming of the Lord’s great and glorious day. Then everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ ”

The Psalm

O Holy One, how manifold are your works;
in wisdom you have made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
Yonder is the great and wide sea
with its living things too many to number,
creatures both small and great.
There move the ships,
and there is that Leviathan,

All of them look to you
to give them their food in due season.
You give it to them; they gather it;
you open your hand, and they are filled with good things.

The Holy Gospel of our Savior Jesus Christ according to John (John 15:26-27; 16:4b-15)
“When the Companion comes, whom I will send from the Father—the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father—he will testify about me. You will testify too, because you have been with me from the beginning.
But I have said these things to you so that when their time comes, you will remember that I told you about them.
“I didn’t say these things to you from the beginning, because I was with you. But now I go away to the one who sent me. None of you ask me, ‘Where are you going?’ Yet because I have said these things to you, you are filled with sorrow. I assure you that it is better for you that I go away. If I don’t go away, the Companion won’t come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will show the world it was wrong about sin, righteousness, and judgment. He will show the world it was wrong about sin because they don’t believe in me. He will show the world it was wrong about righteousness because I’m going to the Father and you won’t see me anymore. He will show the world it was wrong about judgment because this world’s ruler stands condemned.
“I have much more to say to you, but you can’t handle it now. However, when the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you in all truth. He won’t speak on his own, but will say whatever he hears and will proclaim to you what is to come. He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and proclaim it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine. That’s why I said that the Spirit takes what is mine and will proclaim it to you.

Gracious God, you send your Spirit to renew the face of the earth. We pray for the church throughout the world. Give us a Spirit of Renewal: Come Holy Spirit!
As the Spirit hovered over the waters at the beginning of creation, as the Creator breathed life into every creature, we pray that the Spirit might help us see the blessedness of all creation. We pray especially for those celebrating birthdays this week: Amanda Diemer, Grace Gorski, William Dula, Princess Imoukhuede, Babs Kehl-Fairchild, and Bryant Cooper; for those celebrating anniversaries, Heidi & Ken Olliff, Mike Angell & Ellis Anderson; and for Ben Rose who graduates from high school this weekend. Give us your Spirit of gratitude: Come Holy Spirit!
Your Spirit gave the disciples power to proclaim the Good News in every language, to every people and tribe and nation. Help us likewise to tell the Good News in a nation and a world so desperate for Good News. We pray for the courage to tell the good news, even when it means standing up for justice. Give us your Spirit of Proclamation: Come Holy Spirit!
Your Spirit stays close to those who suffer from division, pain, disease, disaster and war. We pray especially for the people of Palestine and Israel. We pray for our partners in Human Rights work in El Salvador and Central America. We pray for all who suffer. Give us your Spirit of Peace and Perseverance: Come Holy Spirit!
Your Spirit unites us with one another, and the living with the dead. We pray for those we love, but see no longer. Give us your Spirit of Perpetual Light: Come Holy Spirit!

O Lord our God, accept the fervent prayers of your people; in
the multitude of your mercies, look with compassion upon us
and all who turn to you for help; for you are gracious, O

The presider gives thanks to God for the reconciling work of Christ’s passion and resurrection and prays over the bread and wine.
Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

The Blessing
Live without fear: your Creator has made you holy, has always protected you, and loves you as a mother. Go in peace to follow the good road and may God’s blessing be with you always.
